Year: 2025–26

Overview

The Uttarakhand Fire and Emergency Service continued to play a vital role in safeguarding lives, property, and critical infrastructure across the state during the year 2025–26. Through expansion of infrastructure, strengthening of human resources, effective emergency response, and enhanced public awareness, the department significantly improved its operational capacity and public outreach.

Approval was accorded for the establishment of a new Fire Station at Purola, District Uttarkashi, vide Government Order No. 319877/XX-3/E-62429/2025-02(20)/2020 dated 05.08.2025, with the sanction of 21 posts, strengthening fire and emergency response in the region.

Recruitment, Promotion & Training

For the first time, direct recruitment was conducted through the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC), Haridwar, filling 25 vacant posts of Fire Officer (Second Class).
Promotions during the year included:

  • 17 personnel promoted to Fire Officer (Second Class)
  • 42 Firemen promoted to Leading Fireman
  • 9 Firemen promoted to Fire Service Driver

Additionally, 22 newly appointed Fire Officers (Second Class) were deputed for basic training at the Odisha Fire and Disaster Response Academy, Bhubaneswar, enhancing professional competence and disaster response readiness.

Fire & Rescue Operations
  • 1,807 fire incidents were attended across urban and rural areas
    • Property saved: ₹158.97 crore
    • Lives saved: 1,092 persons & 1,445 animals
  • 818 rescue calls were handled
    • saved: 6,581 persons & 169 animals
    • Lives lost: 110 persons & 11 animals
  • 312 forest fire incidents reported
    • Property loss: ₹0.23 crore
    • Property saved: ₹11.97 crore
Public Awareness & Capacity Building

  • 713 mock drills conducted, sensitizing 1,02,293 citizens
  • 859 fire safety awareness programmes organized, training 40,813 persons in fire prevention and safety measures

VIP Duties & Safety Enforcement

  • Successfully performed 1,800 VIP/VVIP duties and 3,477 law and order duties
  • Conducted 2,510 fire safety audits and 2,858 fire safety inspections
  • Issued safety directions to schools, hospitals, industrial, commercial, and residential buildings to ensure compliance with fire safety norms
